The purpose of our internship program is to provide college students with financial services industry experience in a high-performing work environment. SFG’s interns rotate through each of our Planning, Investment and Insurance Departments to learn the back-office operations and work in real-time situations. Within each department, interns will learn from team members and are assigned applicable tasks. They learn Northwestern Mutual systems, processes and products, financial/retirement/tax planning concepts, and work alongside our team members to conduct daily business. Each intern will observe advisor-client meetings. Weekly, interns are allotted time with one of our advisors or team members to learn more about specific areas of the business.
Our goal for the internship program is to provide college students with work experience within the financial services industry and to be exposed to the following services that our advisor’s provide to clients: retirement planning, college planning, investment strategies, risk management solutions, executive benefits planning and business succession planning. Each intern can end the program with a wealth of financial planning knowledge and connections as well as their own financial plan.

“During my internship with SFG I accomplished the goal of gaining insight and experience in the financial advising industry. In fact, my goals were far exceeded as I worked firsthand in each department of and observed multiple advisor meetings. I’ve learned more in the last two months than I would have ever thought coming into this internship.” – Gage K.

“I think the planning process is extremely useful and unique. Edward Jones never did anything like this when I was a client. Being able to visually see where your money is going and how that affects your lifestyle decades from now encourages the client to follow through with the plan.” – Zach K.

“I think the planning process is very interesting. It is enjoyable to see how the lives of individuals differ from one another and how their assets and liabilities come together to project their financial outlook. It’s amazing how efficient PX makes the planning process and how it can account for nearly any scenario in life.” – Gage K.
